What They Are

Copulins are NOT steroids โ€” they are a mixture of short-chain volatile fatty acids (C2-C6) found in vaginal secretions. This makes them fundamentally different from every other molecule in this wiki. While pheromone steroids (androstanes, androstenes, etc.) are detected via VNO and are non-volatile, copulins are highly volatile organic acids detected primarily through the olfactory system (nose). The name comes from "copulate."
